The showdown between the USA and Southern Superstars during the CSA Cubs Week 2025 tournament delivered a gripping contest for cricket enthusiasts, marked by suspenseful moments, strategic plays, and outstanding individual performances. The USA secured a decisive win, defending their score of 244 and bowling out the Southern Superstars for just 139 in the championship match.

Setting a challenging target of 244 runs, the USA’s innings was underpinned by an impressive performance from Utkarsh Srivastava, who scored 95 off 119 balls. After a slow beginning, Srivastava exhibited remarkable patience and craftsmanship, striking seven boundaries to stabilize the innings following early setbacks. His innings was vital, particularly as the USA lost wickets intermittently.

Amrinder Gill and Dharshan Haribabu opened the batting but failed to build on their starts. Gill managed a steady 35 off 60 balls, though he struggled to accelerate, while Haribabu contributed 15 runs before being dismissed by Raeeq Daniels, who was the standout bowler with figures of 3 for 53. The middle order faltered as Jeremy Samuel was dismissed for a duck, and Shiv Shani only added 4 runs.

Recovery in the innings was spearheaded by Sabrish Prasad, whose quick 41 off 37 deliveries, featuring two fours and two sixes, injected the momentum the USA needed towards the end. He received solid support from Arjun Mahesh, who added 23 runs to the total. Extras also played an important role, with 19 runs coming through wides, no-balls, and byes.

Despite a late surge, the USA innings wrapped up with a blend of disciplined bowling from the Southern Superstars, particularly Callum Appollis, who boasted an impressive economy rate of 3.0, and some poor deliveries that allowed the USA to add vital runs.

In their pursuit of 244, the Southern Superstars struggled to find their footing. A disastrous start saw them lose Adnaan Lagadien and Benjamin Hansen within the opening three overs. Lagadien scored just 6 runs before falling to Arya Garg, while Hansen was out for a duck.

The mainstay of their chase was Divan Linde, who managed 55 off 69 balls. Linde demonstrated resilience and was the only batter to surpass the 50-run milestone, hitting five boundaries. He received brief support from Daniel Bosman, who scored 36 off 51, but the partners could not establish a challenging run rate. The momentum swung when Ansh Rai dismissed Bosman, exposing the middle order.

The USA bowlers capitalized on the mounting pressure, with Adit Kappa delivering a decisive spell. Kappa claimed 4 for 13 in 7.5 overs, taking critical wickets including those of Paul James and Taywin Cole Adams, effectively dismantling the Southern Superstars’ lower order. Ansh Rai also contributed significantly, with figures of 3 for 33, maintaining pressure through his consistent line and length. Arya Garg added to the early pressure with two important wickets.

Extras also played a part in the Southern Superstars’ total, with 14 runs added, but it ultimately fell short. The innings concluded in the 33rd over, as the Southern Superstars were bowled out 105 runs behind the target.

This match showcased the USA’s balanced approach with both bat and ball. While Utkarsh Srivastava’s near-century provided a solid foundation, the bowling performance, highlighted by Kappa and Rai, ensured a commanding victory. For the Southern Superstars, Linde’s innings was a silver lining, but their failure to forge partnerships ultimately proved costly.
