After featuring a tri-nation series in its first edition, the Nordic Women’s T20 Cup expanded to a 5-team tournament last year. The upcoming 3rd edition, set for the 10th and 11th of August 2024, will once again include 5 teams, but with a different lineup. From an overview of its past and format to broadcasting information, team rosters, and the timetable, here is all the necessary information you need to have concerning the Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) series.
Historical Account:
During the inauguration of the 2022 Nordic Cup, the participating nations were Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Denmark faced defeats in all three matches, while Norway managed to clinch just one victory out of five. The host nation, Sweden, triumphed in the series with an impeccable record of five consecutive wins.
In the 2023 season, Finland XI and Estonia were added to the mix. Sweden extended their winning streak from the previous year, claiming the championship with another flawless display of five successive wins. Finland emerged as the runners-up with two victories out of five matches. Denmark and Norway each won a single game (Denmark out of five and Norway out of six) while Estonia couldn’t secure a victory, facing two defeats in three matches alongside one match being abandoned. It is important to note that Finland presented a robust team, and therefore their matches did not hold T20I status.
In the 2024 edition of the Nordic Cup, the two-time champions Sweden will not be partaking. Instead, hosts Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, and Guernsey will gather for the tournament. The season’s commencement will witness Finland making their debut in Women’s T20I against Denmark in the opening encounter.
Structure:
The contest will adhere to a round-robin system, where each team will play against every other team once. The team securing the highest position at the conclusion of the event, featuring five teams, will be bestowed with the championship title.
