The eagerly awaited entry of Sayali Satghare during India’s first ODI against Ireland did not disappoint, as the seam-bowling all-rounder demonstrated her skills on the global stage.

At only 24 years old, Satghare’s transition from Mumbai’s domestic scene to attaining an Indian ODI cap has been marked by perseverance and hard work.

Ireland set a challenging total of 238/7 in their allotted 50 overs, with Satghare achieving her first international wicket by dismissing Arlene Kelly. Her efficient bowling played a crucial role in limiting Ireland’s scoring and providing India with the vital breakthrough.

In reply, India successfully chased down the target, propelled by Pratika Rawal’s impressive innings of 89 runs off 96 deliveries, along with Tejal Hasabnis who contributed with an unbeaten 53 off 46 balls.

Satghare’s inclusion strengthened the squad, and her composed attitude during her debut highlighted her preparedness for the rigors of international competition. Her journey to the national team stems from consistent displays at the domestic level.

In the Senior Women’s ODI Trophy held in January 2024, she amassed 260 runs with an average of 52 and took 10 wickets across seven matches. Her bowling talents remained evident as she secured 17 wickets in December 2024, finishing as the tournament’s eighth-highest wicket-taker.

Her capabilities caught the attention of the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, where she stepped in as a concussion substitute for Dayalan Hemalatha during a game against the Delhi Capitals. Despite having limited chances, her potential was clear, leading the Giants to keep her on for INR 10 lakh prior to the WPL 2025 auction.

This series against Ireland serves as an opportunity for rising stars like Satghare to shine. With Renuka Singh Thakur resting, Satghare has already demonstrated her worth within India’s seam bowling lineup.

As India proceeds with the series, Sayali Satghare’s debut represents the start of an exciting international journey. India will face Ireland again on January 12th at the same venue.
