India’s encounter with Sri Lanka during the 12th ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 featured a remarkable moment as Radha Yadav executed an astonishing catch that left spectators captivated. Scroll down to view the video of this phenomenal catch.

The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, set a formidable target of 172 runs after choosing to bat first—this was the highest score recorded in this edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. As Sri Lanka took to the crease, Radha Yadav replaced Harmanpreet in the field during the opening over bowled by Renuka Singh Thakur. On the second ball, Sri Lankan opener Vishmi Gunaratne aimed for a lofty shot but misjudged it, sending the ball skyward. In a moment of sheer brilliance, Radha Yadav executed an incredible full-stretch dive to her right, completing a spectacular catch. Her teammates celebrated this exceptional play, marking it as a pivotal first breakthrough for India.

Although the wicket was officially assigned to Renuka Singh Thakur, it was Radha Yadav’s breathtaking athleticism that secured a key breakthrough for India. She later added to her contributions by grabbing another sharp catch off Asha Sobhana’s delivery.

Social media, including X (formerly Twitter), erupted with excitement, with users dubbing it the ‘catch of the tournament already,’ ‘world class,’ and more! Here are some reactions:

Strong performances from Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana enabled India to reach a robust total of 172 runs. Sri Lanka, aiming for 173, faced difficulties throughout their innings, losing wickets frequently. India’s disciplined bowling attack ensured that every bowler took at least one wicket, with pacer Renuka Singh excelling in dismantling Sri Lanka’s top order, finishing with remarkable figures of 2 for 16 in her four overs, while both Asha Sobhana and Arundhati Reddy ended with identical figures of 3/19 (4). Ultimately, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 90 runs, giving India a commanding 82-run victory and elevating them to second place on the points table.
