A social media uproar began on July 26th after an episode of the cricket.com.au podcast, “Stories After Stumps,” where Nicole Bolton disclosed a controversial comment made by Cathryn Fitzpatrick regarding Indian cricket legend Mithali Raj.

Nicole Bolton, the retired Australian opener, recounted an incident involving Cathryn Fitzpatrick, the former head coach of the Australian women’s team, who criticized Mithali Raj’s strike rate by comparing it to Bolton’s approach.

A veteran of 55 international matches, Bolton amassed 1,993 runs and took 2 wickets across various formats before retiring in November 2022.

Bolton remembered her conversation with Cathryn Fitzpatrick vividly, where Fitzpatrick questioned her aspirations of emulating Mithali Raj’s style of play in the Australian team, irrespective of the match outcome based on individual performance.

Sharing her perspective, Bolton said, “During a one-on-one discussion, Fitzpatrick asked me if I aimed to replicate Mithali Raj’s approach in the Australian team. This made me realize the perceptions held about my style of play within the team.”

The video snippet featuring Nicole Bolton’s revelation was posted on cricket.com.au’s X account (@cricketcomau), triggering a wave of criticism and reactions from users.

In response to the post, @Crictopher17 shared, “The attention on your words or posts largely stems from Mithali Raj’s impact on cricket. Show some respect.”
