Nepal triumphed over the United States by 17 runs in the first T20 International of their three-match series, held at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on the evening of October 17, 2024. This match highlighted the abilities of both sides, but it was Nepal’s strong all-around performance that ultimately sealed their win, earning them a 1-0 advantage in the series.

After winning the toss, the USA opted to field first, allowing Nepal to amass a competitive score of 164 runs for 9 wickets in their 20-over innings. The innings was spearheaded by Rohit Paudel, the captain of the Nepalese team, who made a significant impact with a top score of 49 runs off 33 balls, including four boundaries and a six, showcasing a blend of aggression and strategic shot selection. Contributions also came from Anil Sah and Aasif Sheikh, who each added 27 runs, while Dipendra Singh Airee provided valuable runs at the end with 28 runs off 17 deliveries.

The USA bowlers made a spirited attempt to contain the runs, with Harmeet Singh emerging as the standout, taking 2 wickets for 18 runs across his four overs. Ali Khan and Jasdeep Singh also played a role in capturing critical wickets, but Nepal’s batting depth allowed them to set a formidable target.

As they chased 165 runs, the USA got off to a rocky start, losing both openers within the first three overs. Monank Patel and Saiteja Mukkamalla managed only 3 and 2 runs, respectively, leaving the scoreboard at a precarious 8 for 2. Andries Gous managed to hold the innings together momentarily with a score of 30, but as wickets continued to fall, the pressure became increasingly intense for the remaining batsmen.

Dipendra Singh Airee was the standout of Nepal’s bowling attack, making significant contributions with both bat and ball. He took 3 key wickets for 27 runs in just 3 overs, preventing the USA from establishing any momentum. Alongside exemplary performances from Rijan Dhakal and Karan KC, the USA struggled to form a solid innings. Despite a spirited effort from Shayan Jahangir, who hit an unbeaten 60 runs off 34 balls, the USA concluded their innings at 147 runs for 7 wickets after 20 overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee’s remarkable all-round display earned him the Player of the Match title, underlining his critical influence in Nepal’s victory. This match showcased the resilience of the Nepalese team, setting up an intriguing continuation of the series. Following this success, Nepal aims to maintain their momentum, while the USA will need to regroup and devise new strategies for the matches ahead.
