Australian bowler Kim Garth has received a reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship against India in Perth.
Garth was found in violation of Article 2.3 of the ICC’s code of conduct, which pertains to the “use of audible obscenity during an international match.”
The incident took place during the fourth over of the final ODI in Australia’s three-match series against India, when Garth displayed her frustration with inappropriate language after allowing a boundary.
Consequently, Garth received one demerit point on her disciplinary record, marking her first offence in the last two years.
The Australian pacer acknowledged the offence and accepted the suggested sanction from David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, which meant that no formal hearing was necessary.
The charge was brought to light by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Ashlee Gibbons, who assessed the situation.
Penalties for Level 1 breaches can range from a formal reprimand to a fine not exceeding 50% of the match fee, as well as one or two demerit points being recorded.
In that match, Garth bowled four overs, finishing with figures of none for 22. Australia secured a commanding victory, completing a 3-0 sweep over India in the ODI series.
