USA wicketkeeper-batter Shayan Jahangir will be unable to participate in the opening ODI of the tri-nation series against Namibia due to issues with his visa. The series, which features hosts Oman, is scheduled to begin on February 8, and it remains uncertain if he will make it in time for the USA’s second ODI against Oman on February 12.

Jahangir, a national from Pakistan, previously missed the USA’s training camp for the tri-series held in India. The last-minute decision regarding the camp’s location left him unable to join the touring party to India, as obtaining a visa for Pakistani nationals can be a lengthy process. However, acquiring a visa for Oman has not posed historical challenges for Pakistani citizens, leaving the details of any administrative oversight in securing his visa unclear.

This visa setback strikes at an unfortunate time, especially as Jahangir recently established himself as a key opener with an impressive century against Nepal in October, marking USA’s last ODI outing. Reports indicate that Smit Patel will take over the opening position alongside Andries Gous in his absence.

“Shayan is a vital part of our team, and we certainly want him in Oman with us. Unfortunately, due to an administrative issue regarding his visa, which is no fault of his own, Shayan was unable to join the squad and will miss the upcoming ICC CWC League 2 fixtures. We’re disappointed and will strive to understand why this unfortunate situation has transpired,” stated a spokesperson for USA Cricket when approached for a comment on the matter.
