The Lancashire women’s cricket squad, representing the historic English county of Lancashire, has made a notable advancement in preparation for the 2025 season. Guided by coach Chris Chambers and led by captain Eleanor Threlkeld, the team showcases a depth of skill, featuring international luminaries such as Kate Cross, Sophie Ecclestone, and Emma Lamb. The recent permanent acquisition of seasoned left-handed opener, Eve Jones, further enhances their roster.

Jones, an experienced top-order batswoman, has finalized a three-year contract with Lancashire. Her journey, which commenced in 2008 with Shropshire, has included stints with Staffordshire, Lancashire, and more recently, Central Sparks. Jones played a pivotal role in Lancashire’s triumphs in 2017 when they clinched both the T20 Cup and the County Championship. Her return to Lancashire signifies a full circle, as she had previously represented Lancashire Thunder in the Kia Super League prior to her move to Central Sparks in 2020.

Alongside her domestic achievements, Jones has made her presence felt in The Hundred, initially playing for Birmingham Phoenix before joining Manchester Originals for the 2024 season. In 2021, she was honored as the inaugural PCA Women’s Overall Domestic MVP, owing to her exceptional outings in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, Charlotte Edwards Cup, and The Hundred. Subsequently, she was voted as the overall PCA Player of the Year.

Reflecting on her comeback, Jones conveyed her excitement, “I am very thrilled to have rejoined Lancashire Thunder on a permanent basis, and I eagerly anticipate stepping into this new tier one era with this group.”

She elaborated, “It has been fantastic to reconnect with the team for the last few matches of this season, and having spent time with Manchester Originals this summer, it feels as though I have never been gone.”

Jones also commended the club’s backing and investment, “From an external perspective, it is evident the support and resources that have been put into the women’s professional setup at the Club, and I am genuinely thrilled to be a part of this journey for the next three seasons.”

David Thorley, the regional director of women’s cricket, expressed his enthusiasm, “We are delighted to present Eve as our first permanent signing in anticipation of the 2025 season and our first since being granted tier one status.”

He accentuated the contribution Jones offers to the squad, “As I mentioned when she first joined us on a temporary loan agreement, Eve will infuse a great deal of experience into our batting lineup and also bring her leadership abilities after having captained in several seasons.”

Thorley further acknowledged her familiarity with the team and her recent performances, “She knows the county well, having captained Lancashire Women previously, played for Lancashire Thunder in the KSL, and she truly excelled during her time with Manchester Originals.”

He concluded, “Eve scored a commendable half-century with the bat in Southport yesterday, and we are excited to witness her maintain her form through the final two matches of the season before she embarks on her three-year contract with Lancashire Thunder.”

Jones’ return is regarded as a significant advantage for Lancashire women’s cricket as they brace for the challenges and prospects of the 2025 season and beyond.
