The San Francisco Unicorns, the T20 franchise for Major League Cricket based in the Bay Area, has revealed its player retention list ahead of the 2025 tournament. Among the eight players kept on the roster are former USA captain Corey Anderson, ex-England international Liam Plunkett, and emerging talents Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Hassan Khan.
Led by coach Shane Watson, the Unicorns aim to maintain the core team that propelled them to the MLC final last year, blending a strong lineup of experienced players with enthusiastic young talent in both batting and bowling roles.
The retention of captain Corey Anderson is a significant move, as he brings the leadership skills and all-round capabilities that have been crucial to the team’s achievements over the previous two seasons. His support will come from World Cup veteran Liam Plunkett, along with bowlers Carmi Le Roux, Brody Couch, Juanoy Drysdale, and spinner Karima Gore.
Additionally, Hassan Khan, who won the Bart King Award for the best domestic player in MLC 2024, remains with the Unicorns. He brings essential power-hitting experience and wicket-taking skills, paired with the impressive performance of Sanjay Krishnamurthi, who shone as a batter last season.
Shane Watson, the head coach for the San Francisco Unicorns, remarked: “Creating a successful cricket franchise over time hinges on both consistency in our lineup and quality on the field, and we’re thrilled that we’ve retained some of the finest domestic players and rising stars in the USA to help us achieve success this year.
“Players like Hassan Khan and Sanjay Krishnamurthi ranked among the top performers across the league last season, and after witnessing the entire group grow during the off-season, we’re confident they will deliver even more this year under the capable leadership of Corey [Anderson] and Liam [Plunkett], whose influence in the locker room is invaluable.”
The San Francisco Unicorns will strive to build on the momentum from 2024 as they seek to capture the MLC 2025 trophy. With a consistent and experienced domestic roster returning for this season, another fruitful campaign seems likely.
