This week, the San Francisco Unicorns announced the elevation of David White from General Manager to CEO. White, who has been at the helm as General Manager leading into the 2024 Major League Cricket season, played a pivotal role in the Unicorns’ landmark achievement of reaching the championship match.

In collaboration with MLC, the Unicorns are set to construct a premier home venue for the team in the Bay Area, aimed at hosting significant international cricket matches. In his new capacity, White will spearhead the search for a sustainable stadium location in the Bay Area, aiming to enhance the presence of cricket—ranked as the second-largest sport globally—in one of North America’s leading sports hubs. The Unicorns are currently exploring the Oakland Coliseum for hosting matches in 2025, driven by rising sponsorship revenues and on-field accomplishments.

White comes to this role with a wealth of leadership experience, having spearheaded community cricket initiatives with Cricket Victoria, crafted partnership strategies for the City of Melbourne, and overseen national leagues and major events at Hockey Australia. Additionally, he played a significant role as a Women’s National Youth Selector for Cricket Australia, where he was instrumental in identifying emerging talent for national teams.

“I am incredibly honored to step into the role of CEO for the San Francisco Unicorns,” stated White. “Cricket is experiencing unheralded growth in the United States, and I look forward to leading this organization as we continue to build a strong connection with our Bay Area fans, field world-class talent, and elevate the sport in the Bay and beyond.”

“This is an exciting new chapter for the team, and I am committed to driving our success both on and off the field.”

During White’s tenure as General Manager, the San Francisco Unicorns witnessed impressive growth in their second season of Major League Cricket. He was responsible for signing cricket superstar Pat Cummins and managing a roster of international stars such as Finn Allen, Matthew Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Matt Henry, alongside 2019 Cricket World Cup champion Liam Plunkett. The team showcased its capabilities under the leadership of U.S. all-rounder and standout captain Corey Anderson.

“David’s vision, leadership, and ability to attract world-class talent have been instrumental in the team’s rapid success,” remarked Unicorns co-owner Anand Rajaraman. “His deep understanding of the sport and commitment to growing cricket in the U.S. make him the perfect choice to lead the Unicorns into an exciting future. We have full confidence that under his guidance, the team will continue to thrive, and the high standard of Major League Cricket will continue to rise.”

The San Francisco Unicorns are gearing up for the third season of Major League Cricket, set to commence in Summer 2025.
