In Queens, NY last Sunday, the Team United Fighters Cricket Club displayed dominance by defeating Atlantis Cricket Club-NY with a scoreline of 2-1 in a fierce competition at Baisley Pond Park as part of the New York National Cricket League’s 40-overs Premier fixture.
At the start of the game, Team United Fighters won the toss and decided to bat first. They began their assault on Atlantis Cricket Club-NY, accumulating 76 runs before Abul Juwel was dismissed for 28 c&b by Ronaldo Alimohamed in the 19th over. Zunaed Siddique also fell after scoring 30 runs, bowled by Diquan Murray. Sufian Rahman took charge, reaching a century with 100 runs off 109 balls, comprising of 3 sixes and 3 fours, before being dismissed by Alimohamed.
Contributions from Ahmed Labib (25) and Extras (15) propelled Team United Fighters to a total of 212 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 40 overs.
Team United Fighters lost wickets at the scores of 76, 161, 189, 204, 206, 210, and 212. Ronaldo Alimohamed showcased an impressive bowling performance with figures of 8-0-39-3 for Atlantis, while Diquan Murray took 1 wicket with figures of 7-0-48-1. Team United Fighters also suffered three run-outs, with Diquan Murray being involved in two and Ronaldo Alimohamed in one.
In the chase, Atlantis struggled to score freely, facing a required run rate of over five runs per over. They were overwhelmed by the relentless attack of Team United Fighters, unable to stage a significant comeback and eventually succumbing to defeat.
Early blows from Zunaed Siddique dismissed Dino Chooweenam on the first ball of the innings, while Marvin Prashad (12) and Randall Wilson (26) put up a brief fight, scoring a few boundaries before exiting the contest one after the other.
Despite a brief resistance from Telston Johnson who scored 13 runs off 13 balls, including 1 six and 1 four, the rest of the Atlantis batting lineup failed to make an impact. With the team collapsing at 79 for nine in 18.5 overs, Atlantis conceded the match to Team United Fighters. Harry Thompson retired hurt, adding to the woes of the Atlantis team.
Atlantis lost wickets at 0, 21, 39, 44, 47, 62, 63, 63, and 79. The bowling attack of Ridwan Sultan (3 for 20 off six overs), Shakiv Al (2 for 19 off 2.5 overs), Imrul Hashib (2 for 24 off eight overs), and Zunaed Siddique (1 for 15 off two overs) played a significant role in securing victory for Team United Fighters.
The defeat by 133 runs was a tough moment for Atlantis, marking their third loss of the season. This loss pushed Atlantis to the sixth spot on the points table, as they now face a challenging task to climb back into the top four positions in the league standings.
Atlantis will be up against Empire Cricket Club this upcoming Sunday, August 4, at Cunningham Park, Queens, NY. Kickoff time is set for 1:00 pm.
